My wife and I are planning a getaway and I find myself at a loss. I would love to hear any and all sugguestions from those who have a chance to go somewhere new, fall in love with it and have just an all out excellent time. (sorry this post will probally be longer than I'd like)

Heres the skinny, Both her and I are divers. She is the warm water vacation diver, and I'm the mixed gas take what I can get as long as I'm in the water clown. She has started to become more intreged with wrecks and moved away from fish and your standard reefs. Her diving has come along light years since her first class years ago and she has become just a pleasure to watch and dive with (I think her SAC rate is lower than mine!) If she ever said, "honey, I think I want to get into doubles" I think I would pee in my wetsuit/drysuit/pants or whatever I was wearing at the time in pure joy. Anyways the goal of the trip is vis, warm water and of course romance.

Heres the catch. We would like to go somewhere we haven't been, a package deal for price and a place with options besides all diving (I would like to dive more, but ya gotta make concessions to go look at the history of places). Liveaboards are out, and I think Mexico and most of the Carribean are out as well as cruise ships. So no Cozemel, Grand Caymen, Belize, Barbados, Dominica, St Thomas, Cancun, Tortola, St Martin, Puerto Vallarta, FL Keys, Bahamas.

All that stuff to the East or West sounds kinda good, like Trunk, Thi, and the PPI but I know abosulty nothing about it and don't see much as far as deals in the various magizines except pictures. She has a brother in China that is pushing Thiland and would like to meet us there posiblly. But the problem I struggle with is going somewhere new, getting ripped off, staying in rat hole and doing air dives at a lame place looking at pufferfish.

We are looking to go in November or even through Feb if the price is right. All-inclucive would work the best. Quite frankly what comes to mind is that place in Tahiti where you stay in a posh bungalow ontop of the water and can watch fish swim beneth your hut, just don't think we can afford it night now. Would love to here what you guys think and have experinced and how to go about making it happen besides the LDS trip rip-off cattle trips.

thanks for the input and happy diving!

the chad,
do some research on the maldives.

Airfare alone from Denver to Male is about $3500/person RT whereas Denver to Papeete is about $1500/person. With two people, that leaves $4k extra to spend on Tahitian luxury :)

I'd suggest diving in Guam (Hiltons and Marriotts) with side trip to Chuuk/Truk (stay at the Blue Lagoon). Your wife will love the wrecks in both.

Thailand has lots of resorts, it´s really well developed so you can pick and choose your level of standard, lot´s of "pretty fish dives", not so many wrecks. It´s part of the "regular offering" of the big charter companies here, maybe you´ll have to look harder or arrange it yourself in the US...

I went to PI last year, there are plenty of resorts there as well, puerto galera is regularly recommended on SB (why don´t you ask questions in the phillipine divers section on SB, they are a diverse and helpful bunch of people). I went to Subic which has more dives then we could explore fully in the two weeks we were there (diving every day), the place we stayed at also mixed it owns trimix and such and had doubles to rent (Johan's Beach Resort - Subic Bay, Philippines you can also look at the wrecks on offer there) it´s not "american all inclusive standard" but more than ok...others will recommend other places in PI I´m sure...
