As someone who was left behind by a dive boat...don't get freaked out.

I just bobbed along waiting for them to come back. My only thought was "Well there's worse ways to die.". I'm in the water...so I'm happy!

Don't worry about the knife. A storm whistle and a sausage are always a good idea for ocean diving. Get a 4'+ sausage with reflective tape, not one of those weenie things most people cary. A mirror doesn't hurt either.

However, you should get worked up about the movie. While people have been left, that was a piece of hollywood fluf with little basis in reality.

Bringing a sausage and a whistle with you is not such a bad idea on a boat. The whistle may not help too much if the only boat in the area is yours and they are heading away from you. Liley won't hear over the engine if they are any distance. But the sausage would have a better chance of being seen. Not panicking is good.
