Hey everyone,

Been wanting to get certified for 10+ years gonna finally take the leap. My
Dad is a wreck, 200ft?, night diver and I want to dive with him. I've been in love with the ocean as long as I can remember, I snorkel and do triathlons in the ocean but i want to finally take the leap, may seem weird but I want to conquer my fears too, I'm
So worried about getting attacked by something honestly. It's the only
Thing that has stopped me, is there anything I can do to help that? Say it
To the dive shop? Just face it by diving? I live in Florida so the ocean is amazing here it's just conquering that fear so I can do what I love. Everytime I hit the ocean I feel calm and a ease, I wanna take the next step and I'm haPpy to be here any advice is appreciated!

The best thing you can do to help overcome your fears is to educate yourself about whatever critters you are afraid of attacking you. You will probably find out that attacks are very rare & that when attacks happen, it is usually the result of the animal being harassed, cornered or fed. You actually have a better chance of being attacked swimming on the surface, than being down under, on the same level of the critter. It goes without saying that you must give those animals the same respect you would of any type of predator. There may, of course, be some animals that are opportunistic & unpredictable, but that is very rare, indeed. Ask about & read up on the habits & instincts of the animals that frighten you,... you may be surprised at what you learn.:cool2: good luck to you in your endeavors.
