Ey guys,

Has anyone experienced this? Big blurr in vision after a few minutes upon ascent, as in down to 10%-20% of vision. Got O2 treatment for 3 hours after the dive, symptoms slowly subsided as weeks passed by, but a map was left in my vision, so i decided to visit the chamber, after treatment, nothing changed. So i guess i didn't need that. :)

Once hit by ocular dcs, does this weaken any part of my eye? Will I be more prone to having eye problems related to diving?

After 4 months, i went for a dive weekend, and some wierd black wave started floating in that same eye, but as i ascended, it dissappeared. According to my computer I was far from exceeding my nitrogen levels. I dunno what that was.... If you guys have similar experiences, pls post.

Thanks

WHat did your Doctor say about your condition?

Can you tell us some more about the dive?

I'd go to an opthomologist ASAP. I had similar symtoms, though not dive related, and suffered a detatched retina a few weeks later.

Hello mampsa:

This does not sound like a problem related to decompression or to diving. I suspect that something occurred concurrent with the dive.

Dr Deco :doctor:

I would strongly recommend an examination by an ophthalmologist. It sounds as though you may have suffered a vitreous detachment, resulting in a large subsequent "floater". This is not an uncommon problem. Hopefully that's what it was, and not a retinal detachment. Anyway, go get a good eye exam.

Additional Info, when my vision cleared, yes there were floaters and a very mold map like thing, went to an eye trauma specialist and he said my macular was swollen or something, treated it for 3 months. Then when I went back to diving, on my 5th dive, thats when the black waves appeared at about 60-70 feet, but dissappeared when I ascended. Now after 1 month, its gone, havent gone diving since. Maybe this weekend I wil though.

Are there any other symptoms that I should watch out for? These things only pop up during dives.

thanks :)

Hi Mampsa,

Some questions:

1. What do you mean by, "a very mold map like thing?" As in mold spore mapping?
2. Does the problem involve both eyes?
3. Do you have any history of head trauma?
4. Do you have any history of migraine?
5. Do you have any illnesses or are you taking any medications?
6. What did the ophthalmologist do to treat the macular swelling?
7. Did s/he give you a more specific diagnosis?
8. What did the specialist say about return to scuba?

Regards,

DocVikingo

Hi Mampsa,

Some questions:

1. What do you mean by, "a very mold map like thing?" As in mold spore mapping? Sorry, typo, its mild or hardly seen map. now its gone after treatment of eye drops.
2. Does the problem involve both eyes? Nope, just the right eye
3. Do you have any history of head trauma? Nope
4. Do you have any history of migraine? Nope
5. Do you have any illnesses or are you taking any medications? Nope
6. What did the ophthalmologist do to treat the macular swelling? Its gone after treating it for 2 months
7. Did s/he give you a more specific diagnosis? No more, everything was back to normal
8. What did the specialist say about return to scuba? I can dive again.

Regards,

DocVikingo

The black waves happened after my treatment of 2 months. And it came out only on my 5th dive for the weekend, and 7th dive after the treatment. I'm thinking it was just because of Mask Squeeze. I also read some articles saying that could be the cause. When I ascended, everyhting was back to normal. Anyway, i'll visit my Doctor again just to be sure. :D

This is the first time I've ever heard of Ocular DCS... can you medical guys give us a short explanation of what it is? I'm guessing this is more than bubbles on the optic nerve?
