FYI to the shutterbugs among us

http://snapshot.parade.com/oceans/

They are accepting entries until September 8. I didn't find anything when I searched "Oceans of Wonder"...so I don't believe this has been posted yet.

Enter Our Photo Contest!

Do you have a spectacular shot of underwater life? A photo of a wild ride down the roaring rapids? Or a candid snapshot of your kids splashing around the pool? Enter it in our "Oceans of Wonder" photo contest for a chance to win a family dream vacation for four!

The Grand Prize Winner in each category will receive a vacation package for four to The Reef Atlantis Resort in Nassau, Bahamas !

Good luck!!

I tossed a couple photos on that...but I'll never win because there are a whole bunch of nicer photos out there!!

Hence why I will never enter these contests, but will tell my photog friends about them. Fishey and ScubaKev (both from the board) take great pics. They should def enter.

I will still enter the contest tonight when I have access to my photos. Mine are definitely not the greatest, but I say "No harm, no foul". What is the worst that could happen? Mine get laughed at around a table over beers and then go into the "AS IF" calendar? Well, even in that scenario I got published.

Thanks for posting this.

Hey guys -

Many of us in the industry rally against contests with abusive usage rights rules such as this one. Essentially they take the right to use all the images submitted (not the winners only, but all submitted) for any purpose with no compensation or attribution.

If you are a serious amateur or professional photographer, I would recommend against entering. If you don;t care much about whether a major company is being abusive with these guidelines, of course that is your decision to make and you won't be any worse off for it. But most people don't read the fine print - so here it is:

OWNERSHIP AND LICENSE. All entry materials become the property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned. The copyright in any Submission shall remain the property of the entrant, but entry into this Promotion constitutes entrant's irrevocable and perpetual permission and consent, without further compensation or attribution, to use, reproduce, print, publish, transmit, distribute, sell, perform, adapt, enhance, or display such Submission for any purpose, including but not limited to editorial, advertising, trade, commercial, and publicity purposes by the Sponsor and/or others authorized by the Sponsor, in any and all media now in existence or hereinafter created, throughout the world, for the duration or the copyright in the Submission. Sponsor and/or others authorized by the Sponsor shall have the right to edit, adapt, and modify the Submission

Oh my photos aren't heading to that type of quality by any stretch (What the heck Emily, you never know?!?!) But I get the enjoyment out of them. (the nice ones get blown up and put on the wall in my family room)

I DID get one published in a yearly publication that's put out by my wife's hospital...pretty cool to see your picture in that type of format....

Thanks for posting the contest DivingPrincessE, your intentions were good and much appreciated!

Thanks for the warning DivePhotoGuide; it's funny how many ways "we're gonna rob you" can be said in legal-ese"!
