I seem to remember a review of it on divernet.com. The NDL times they were getting were so liberal it sounded like they had a defective unit.

Moxie: Are you using the Versa in a console or wrist mount? Is the size of the Versa module about the same as the old Oceanic "hockey puck" style computers like the Prodigy and Datamax series? I have a Prodigy that I'd like to try as a wrist mount but it seems kind of bulky with the wrist boot. Just wondering if the Versa is any more compact as a wrist mount. Thanks.

Don

It's a pretty large wristmount though not extraordinarily so. You def, wouldn't want to wear it as a watch. So far, I am happy with my wristmount version except for that annoying 12/24 hour bug.

I can't imagine that the decompression model is a problem. If it was, I expect that we would have heard of people getting bent by now.

fotta once bubbled...

Any idea if there is a cure for this problem? I am considering purchase this model, but am worried about this little bug it seems to have.

I haven't heard of fix and after a good deal of thought have come to the conclusion that a fix would be nice but that the model's features outweigh the unfortunate 12/24 hour thing. Other than the bug, I have no complaints. Actually, yes I do - a minor one. The strap that came with the thing was wayyyyy too long. I swapped it for a velcro one that I bought at Zellers for a few bucks. In truth, I would have done so anyway since it is much safer. If one of the pins lets go, I won't lose the computer. Cheap insurance.

Would I buy it again, after owning it for a while? Yes, almost certainly. I hope this helps.

Hey fotta -

Could you describe in more detail how you swapped out the wrist strap? I was looking to replace my strap with bungees, but I couldn't figure out an easy way to do it without really carving up the boot... How did you attach the velcro strap?

gracias,
steve

By the way, I'm totally happy with my Oceanic Versa pro. It's my first computer, so I can't make an illuminating comparisons. Nonetheless, it stacked up well against comparable computers when I did some comparison shopping. I've got about 40 dives on it now, and no complaints.

I bought one of those wrap-around Timex velcro straps. I removed the stock strap by taking out the pins with a micro screwdriver. I then placed the watchstrap into place on the computer's back then put the pins back into place with the strap underneath them. It was much easier to get them in than to take them out, btw.

It only took a few minutes to do and seems to be quite secure.

If you can't follow what I have written above, let me know and I'll take a digital image and try to post it here.

BTW, I tried to figure out a way to use a bungee but couldn't, short of drilling into the casing of the computer. I'm sure it could be done, perhaps by attaching a 'leader' of some kind to the pins. So far, I haven't felt the need to use a bungee rather than the velcro strap though.
