I've used Oceanic Deltas and Alphas, although I don't own them myself. Very good regs, very reliable, and considering their reasonable prices, they are value for money. Same deal with their BCs. Just look around, check the features, try them if you can, and choose what works for you and has what you need.

I've never tried the Zeta, although I've been curious about it since I first saw it in last year's ADEX in KL. That's the first review I've read of it; thanks for the info. :) To think, I almost bought it because it looked cool, they were practically giving it away at the ADEX, and even though it was new and untested, I figured, Oceanic has always made good products.

Their computers are excellent, too, and very user-friendly. Just make sure the model you get has the features you need, for example, the nitrox capability.

Another customer service+ story about Oceanic. A friend of mine also bought a Data Plus and it flooded; he wrote Oceanic and complained, and told them how disappointed he was, as it was a new product. They gave him a new one, AND a DataTrans Plus! :) Made ME want to write Oceanic.

Datamax Pro Plus is an awesome computer. Have owned one for about two years now and I am very pleased with it.

That's a ditto for me. We old guys with failing eyesight love the BIG numbers, too. :D

Hey 64,
I have the Data Plus 2 and it's a nice puter. Easy to read, reliable, a good value for the money, and conservative. Oceanic, as you have read here, has an excellent relationship with it's customers. I think you will be happy with this Oceanic product.:tree:Bob

Lets see if this thread is dead.

Howdy and64rew,

I bought a Chute II after trying out many other BCD's. I love it! It was the most comfortable BCD I have used with all the features I like. Good choice.
:)

Hi and64rew:

Like Dee, I too have a Data Max Pro Plus and am very pleased with it. It is easy to read, well back lit and easy to change the battery yourself. If you get this computer, spend the extra money for the plastic screen protector, if you don’t you’ll wish you did.

On the regulator side, I have an Oceanic Delta II and am very pleased with it’s performance. Most of my diving is done at a depth of about 60 – 80 fsw and this regulator delivers air as well at 80 feet as it does at 30 feet.

Can’t give any input on Oceanic BC’s, I own Zeagle and to me their the best.

I own an Oceanic Deltta 3 with PX2 first stage. Extremely happy with the delta 3 . When I bought it , at the Oceanic distributer I tried the Zeta, it's air flow was impressive. But I decided on the delta 3 because it is adjustable and it can even be adjusted to provide more flow than the zeta. When the adjustment knob turned all the way forwward , it become positive pressure breathing.
As far as computers are comcerned, I am not too happy with my Data Trans Plus. It had to go back to the agent when it was 1 week old. and after 2 months they sent me a new replacement. Even the new one still gives me lots of transmission disconnections. I will never dive with it as the sole sourse of tanks pressure information ( I use an analoge gauge also). I got so fed up with the data Trans plus so now I bought a Suunto Stinger .
The rest of my oceanic equipments ( BCD - probe, Wet Suit, mask, boots ) are all excelent specially the probe. IMHO oceanic make exceleent products , except dive computers.

I just went through the whole purchasing frienzy and ended up with an Oceanic Versa Pro computer which is Nitrox ready and used the system for two dives in Montery two weeks ago and it was great. Very easy to see even in low vis, good backlighting when it was getting dark and the one button control to move through the various settings (you use the side button as well in conjuntion at times), water or manual activation and after each surface interval it automatically changes to the next dive once you hit the water. Also has Fly time/Altitude and some other nice features. Very nice.

I also looked at A LOT of regs and did try the Zeta but did not like it. It was like a shotgun in my mouth and it was tuned by my dive shop. I ended up getting the Oceanic Delta 3 which is a fantastic reg. for the price. It has an adjustment knob to prevent free flows like when in drift diving and a +/- switch for an additional adjustment. This reg breaths so smooth I did not even realize or hear the reg operating like the rental regs I used. (I am not talking about bubbles, but the actual in and out exhalation of the mechanism clicking...this gives you air at the SLIGHTEST breath in, smooth. Also breaths perfect upside down which is something that was important to me.

The Oceanic Tour was my bc and I did like it but on my last dive, one of the d-rings came off so I took it to my dive shop and they said it could not be fixed so they are contacting Oceanic to try to get me the Chute II since the type of diving and weight I am using just won't be supported by the Tour. So hopefully I will get the word this week that I can get the Chute II for the price difference. Anyhow, I am very happy with all my gear and I really like the quick dump pouches on the Oceanic which makes getting out of the water on the boat a lot easier.

Bottom line, you have to be comfortable and happy with whatever you get. It is a very personal choice so make sure to take your time, ask lots of questions, try the regs if you can (my shop let me use my mouthpiece and breath the various display regs.) This allowed me to make my choice rather than listening to all the various opinions without any hands on experience.

Definitely buy the BC, REG and COMPUTER at an authorized center for the stuff you sell otherwise getting it serviced might be difficult to near impossible. I would only order things from the Internet when you buy like lights, accessories, but not the big purchases. My shop actually beat the prices I found on the Internet for most things and I found out from all the big manufactures of regs, computers and bc's that they do not warranty anything you buy over the Internet, including Oceanic, Sequest, etc.

Happy Diving! Having your own new gear is a wonderful thing! I am on my honeymoon period with my Oceanic stuff and love it.
