:D Hi I have read so many articles since getting into this wonderful sport, so Im confused, I intend to qualify one day as a Master Instructor, I have a lot to learn LOL

I am looking at purchasing the Oceanic Chute 2 BCD, Datamax Pro computer and zeta reg any feed back would be appreciated

I don't have a Chute BC but have a friend that does and he is really pleased with it.

I do have an Oceanic Data Max Pro Plus computer. I'm thoroughly happy with it. It's easy to read in low viz, all the settings are friendly and it falls in the mid-range for conservatism. I feel safe with it but not restricted.

The PC download is pretty good now that Oceanic has upgraded it.

Andy,

I own an Oceanic Contour as I'm a big diver and in cold water. I really like this brand and will purchase another one from oceanic. As far as the computer I would not but the pro but Pro Plus as this has more features and allows Nitrox if you ever want to. I also believe that you should get your regulator from a dive shop you are comfortable with as you will need to get it serviced yearly. My shop sells Scubapro , Oceanic, Atomic and the owners and divemasters have used them all. I prefer the Scubapro line.

What ever you purchase make sure it fits you and your comfortable with it as well as being able to get it serviced as needed (without having to send it out)

I have not had any experience with the particular equipment you are looking at but here is a Oceanic story for you might find interesting. I had a Data 100 for several years and last Feb I took it on a trip to the Fla springs. On the first dive I looked at it to find it completely flooded. It was at least 2 years out of warranty but my LDS called Oceanic and they ask to have it sent back to them. Turns out that some of the early ones had a material problem that caused them to crack and leak after several years. Every manufacturer can and does have some equipment toubles from time to time but I feel that how they treat the customer says a lot about the company....I got a NEW Data 100 back in less that a week, no questions asked. By all rights, they did not have to give me anything as the warrenty had long expired. I now own a Data Plus for nitrox and the returned Data 100 is backup.....They have a loyal customer.

My BC's dump valve developed a leak while diving one weekend in Malaysia. I was set to dive again the following weekend but was concerned that sending it for repair would take too long and I would have to miss that trip.

I sent it in that Monday anyhow and informed them that I've got a trip in four days time. I received a call 48 hrs later informing me that my BC had been repaired and ready for collection (they replaced the whole bladder). I was pleasantly surprised and very grateful.

One of the reasons could be that Oceanic has an office on this island, so the support is definitely there. Oceanic’s Asia Pacific HQ is based in Victoria. I’m not sure which part of Oz you’re located and64rew, but when it comes to service, support, and of course quality products…absolutely no worries mate!

All the best!

:D

And64rew,
I have had an Oceanic Data Plus for 3 yrears (100+ dives). It's been great. It is easy to use, read, and program for nitrox. It also comes with a great set of instructions.
While it is not air integrated, and has been succeeded by the Data Plus 2, it is a fine computer. My understanding is that the positives of this Oceanic computer apply to all their computers.
One last comment(agreeing with chuckrt): the Datamax Pro is not Nitrox capable. I'd suggest the Datamax Pro Plus, as it does have the nitrox capability.
In short my suggestions: Datamax Pro Plus ,or, if the $$ is a concern, the Data Plus 2. and an SPG.
Good Luck with whatever you choose,
Mike

I agree that Oceanic is a great company, and support their customers above and beyond the call, from what I've seen.

But, if you are planning on becoming an instructor, you may want to go with a larger second stage. The main complaint from instructors is the smaller second stage (Zeta) interferes with their vision while doing pool work. With no current or water movement, the bubbles will come up infront of you mask, which will make seeing the students a little more difficult. For recreational diving, the reg is great!

You may want to think about getting the Delta. I've used that while helping with classes, and the bubbles don't seem to be as noticable.

Just a suggestion...take both out if you can, and see which one you prefer.

Good luck, and welcome aboard!

I own the oceanic data max pro plus, and really like it. large display, back-lit for low light conditions. I also got the quick-disconnect option, so I don't have to have it hanging off of a hose while I am logging my dives.

Datamax Pro Plus is an awesome computer. Have owned one for about two years now and I am very pleased with it. Have several friend swith the chute 2 who love them. Cant say from expereince cause I have never tried one.
