Hello to all. I'm new here and I just got my AWD. It's time to shop for gears. I was looking at the Oceanic Islander. Tried it on and it feels good. Just wanna have some input from you all before I fork out the money. Thanks in advance.

Nice unit, I looked at it too. Great for travel but I think its limited on the amount of weight you can strap on it. So if your in a 7mm farmer john/ jacket it may leave you on the surface. Ended up with an Excursion.

I may get one in the future just for travel to areas were a 2mm will keep you warm

I have a 3mm full suit and so far only dive at the tropics. I've been using less than 10lbs of weight. I guess weight is not much of an issue here so far. But thanks for the input.

I own it & its great. But I only use it when I am diving in a place where I do not need much weight, as you said, less than 10 lbs. Not because you can't fit more weight in the pockets, but because it does not have the lift (bladder size) to hold you up high on the surface. You could always add weight using a weight belt, but you can't add lift to that BCD!

I have been checking it out at my LDS because we usually have to travel to dive. It looks like a great-- and light -- travel BC. Other than lift concerns, is there any other downside to it?

It has more than enough lift. The latest Islanders have more weight capacity than the first units (an extra 4 lbs).

Thanks. The LDS said the one I was looking at could hold up to 16 pounds. But we didn't talk about lift.

Small and Med have 26lbs lift
Large and extra large have 30lbs lift

More than enough for tropical diving which this BCD is designed for.

Jeez, Mine is only 7 months old, already "old inventory". Any chance of an upgrade?

Bought mine but haven't got the chance to go diving yet. Will be doing so in 2 weeks time. Will keep you guys updated. One thing for sure it is light and fits me well. One bad point on the review is that it feels awkward when releasing the weights, pull down and up towards the armpit/shoulder.
