One of my dive buddies is offering to sell me an Oceanic GT3 and Alpha 8 octo with 3 gauge console for $150. I used a rental GT3 once and liked it but I only took it to 30' or so. He has used these one season but wants to switch to a DIN reg. I'm thinking I'll sell the console and buy an SPG instead since I have a wrist computer and I'll switch it over to a long hose setup because the DIR folks have convinced me that that is a better way to go. Any thoughts on the reg or me preposed config? Thanks.

My single tank reg is a GT3/CDX5 with a DIN fitting, on the long hose, Alpha 8 octo bungee'd under my chin, with an SPG on a 26" HP hose, and a 22" inflator hose. I like it. Very small, light, breathes nicely, even at depth. I've even dove it in 42 degree water with no complaints. $150 complete is a wicked good deal. Then if you really want to spite him, get it switched to DIN and see how long it takes him to notice. :D

I have the set-up you are talking about a GT3 with SPG and Alpha 8 octopus. Mine is configured for DIN and I am very satisfied with this reg. I dove the Oriskany with it. The reg alone runs about $300 new.

Which first stage is it? I have a GT3 w/the cdx5 and it been to 155 in 40 degree water in Lake Erie. And why would he sell it? The DIN conversion is about 60 bucks and takes less than 5 minutes to do. Not too bright spending money on a new reg when the one he has is a good one and could be his DIN reg for a few bucks more.

Yeah....be a friend and talk him out of it. :)

I told him it is an an amazing deal and let him reconsider but he has inherited wealth and doesn't know what to do with it all and do likes to buy toys (planes, sports cars, new regs, etc). He wants to sell it so he can get a new one and he's just using din as an excuse.
