Oahu scuba instructor recommendations, please!

Hello,

We are beginners. We have our Paddi certificates from about 1 year ago but haven't been in the water since then. We are returning to Hawaii in just 2 weeks and want to know of someone who can be our guide and give us a refresher course.

A person good with teenagers ( l girl 18 and 1 boy 16) would be a plus. We are staying near Waikiki but am willing to travel across Oahu.

If Scuba is particularly good on a neighbor island we would consider this also.

I will be in oahu mid sept and am teaching a course then..be there thru Oct..found out thru my daughter that lives there.. that most of the Instructors are part time with other jobs during the week..if you are staying at a hotel ask who the locals dive with and are trained by..
 
Try Nikole Ordway at Island Divers. I saw her with teens during my trip to Hawaii in April and she had a real good rapport. She has a genuine enthusiasm for diving and an interest in all things aquatic. Island divers picks up at Waikiki locations so there is no reason for you to drive across the island. It was a pretty good operation. A real conversation starter with Nikole is underwater photography or the training she did with marine mammals.

I recommend Chris from Dive Oahu. He is the kind of guy who can relate to teenagers really well and make them feel really comfortable. He also has the type of personality that works well with all age groups - very relaxed and comfortable, not the kind of instructor who intimidates you or makes you feel stupid or draws attention to your lack of experience. He actually did his instructor training alongside one of our instructors from Kauai and I can attest that he is very thorough and diligent and safety-conscious. When I dive in Oahu, I dive with him! Best of luck to you...
