I have a Canon housing for G12...WPDC-34, I wanted to get some extra o rings and grease before a trip. Can anyone suggest where I might find this? Have searched online had no luck, perhaps I am using the wrong search!

Call the Official Canon Parts Order Desk at 732-521-7230. AFAIK, it's open M-F 9am-7pm EST.

Yeah, it's a good idea to have an extra o-ring and o-ring lube on hand. FWIW, some people report that using Tribolube 71 (O2-compatible lube for regs/rebreathers) works well with the Canon o-rings. I have yet to test this out, though.

I don't know if they're made out of the same material, but I have been diving the same Canon A570 oring(a yellow one) for almost 4 yrs without any problems......Just grease it up with the supplied Canon grease each time......Now saying this, an extra one is not a bad idea.....btw, when not in use, I remove it from the housing & store it figured-8 inside the housing....

AND, I'm ordering a new rig as we speak---will get an extra, like I had with my old film S&S, just feel a little better with one....

@diver 85: I've had a similar experience with Canon UW housing o-rings. If stored and maintained properly, they should last several years. I change mine every 2-3 years, but I always suspected they could last longer than that. The old o-ring finds its way into my save-a-dive kit.

This seems like a good place to ask. With my Sony Orings I just rinsed them under warm running water to flush the debris off. Then I stored them in a clean ziplock bag that I squeezed some grease into. That seemed to allow me to spread the grease around the oring and keep it form being stretched too much..too long or drying out.

The instructions say NOT to wash the Oring with water in the housing directions. So what do you guys do? How to you get the grit off them?

Thanks...

Since '95, I've only been wiping off the orings with a clean towel & then run my fingers around it to remove any debris post diving--then put a little grease on & store camera with no oring -----has worked for over 15 years now--ie never have flooded a camera(over 1k dives with a camera)....

Thanks for that! How do you make sure you don't get fiber from the towel on the oring?

..snip..

That's the number that B&H gave me but when I got in touch with Canon they routed me to 866-481-2569. I used this number to order two spare o-rings for my WP-DC34 yesterday. It's not worth ordering just one as the shipping costs almost as much as the o-ring & shipping for 2 is the same as for 1.

Time: Feb. 01, 2011
Company: Canon USA

Subject:
Called canon parts department to see how much an 0-ring for WP-DC29 would cost.

Reply:
O-ring cost @ $16.00 dollars for the SD1200is underwater camera housing o-ring.

Shipping: $6.00 dollars for ground shipping

I personally will be ordering one soon. But the Canon rep. stated that they are updating their computer systems and will have to call back on Monday to place orders.

Hope this helps some people.

thanks
