I'm trying to decide between a Nitek 3 and the Vytek.
What do you think? Anyone have either of these?

I´ve been using a nitek3 for 5 years and the computer is pretty good deal and time proven ( convervative model as i like)..in fact this computer used to be more expensive but the new version (nitek He which is VERY overpriced considering its size and old algorithm) and new competitors had done that prices went down to near 500$ (almost the same than vytek) but now i would buy a vytek..small package (nitek3 is like a yellow brick) and newer and revised decompression model. My feedback about my vytek is quite positive as well (still evaluating)...I can recomend both.

I'm actually trying to make the same determination - Vytek or NiTek3. I will be doing some deco profiles, and the biggest concern I have is that the Vytek would lock me out.

The Vytec is a recreational computer and not made for nor meant for planned deco diving.

Hmmm . . . I don't think Suunto agrees with that. Here's the opening blurb from their web site. "Suunto Vytec is a versatile multigas full-decompression computer for advanced divers." I suggest those wanting to compare check out Suunto's web site as well as Dive Rite's for direct info.

It would be curious for a "recreational only" computer to be programmable for several different gas mixtures to switch between during a dive.

All said, I like my NiTek3 very much, but if I had it to do over today I'd probably go for a NiTek Plus - I usually only use 2 gas mixtures max on a given dive, and I'm not a big fan of gas integrated dive computers personally. But each person has their own tastes - see what's right for you & fits your needs.

You are mistaken here. The Vytec is a technical computer that can be used with 3 gases between 21% and 99%. This can be used as a recreational computer if you wish.

I have been using this for the last year and half without any trouble. I had a NiTek but went to the Vytec because it has a larger display. Both are good and It really is a personal chose.

Good Luck

Thanks for the feedback. I definitely still have some research to do. At least in the near future, most of my diving will continue to be within no-stop limits, although I am taking TDI Advanced Nitrox and TDI Deco Procedures this summer. It's definitely nice to have one less hose for those rec dives.

Technical computer my butt. Just because it changes gas doesn't mean zip. I can't believe anyone with any deco training would consider this thing a tec computer. Egad.

Nice response.

Since you must have intimate details, what doesn't the Vytec have that the Nitex has?

Why not? For technical nitrox it's sufficient as a backup given that you plan your dives on the pc first..... The only complaint I consistently hear about it is that it's too conservative. And if your goal is to get a clean deco I don't see what's wrong with too conservative.

R..
