The Mother Superior of a convent is attending to her daily round of paperwork in her office.
Now this is an order of nuns who have taken a vow of silence as their observance of obedience. Indeed, individually, they are allowed to speak once a year - and then only to the Mother Superior to communicate any needs or concerns they might have or challenges they might have about their faith.
These affairs are usually very circumspect and invaribly centre around liturgical points.
And today is the day when each nun files into the Mother Superior's office (cell) to have their respective session.
In walks Sister Redempta. She's been at the convent only three years and is still completing her novice status.
" Mother Superior, I'm very cold at night and I need more blankets for my cell", say Sister Redempta.
With a wave of her hand in dismissal, the Mother Superior signs the chit and the request is actioned. That night Sister Redempta gets her blankets.
-----------------------------------------
The follwoing year at the same time, the day the nuns are allowed to talk again comes round.
Once again, in walks Sister Redempta:
"Mother Superior, I find myself very hungry most days and could do with a little more food."
Again, the Mother Superior waves her hand in dismissal as the request is actioned. From that day hence, Sister Redempta never goes hungry again.
--------------------------------------------
Sure enough, the same time the following year, the day to speak come back around. In walks Sister Redempta in to the office:
"Mother Superior, I find that the bird's 'Dawn Chorus' wakes me a little too early every morning when I'm sleeping and I'd like to be moved to a different, quieter room in the convent."
The request is thus made and actioned. Never again is Sister Redpemta awoken early by the birds outside her window.

The following year, the day to talk comes round again, and sure enough, in walks the good Sister:
"Mother Superior, I've had time to think about my life and I've decided that convent life - and that of a nun - is NOT for me. I'd like to remove myself from the convent and my vows."
The Mother Superior looks out the window into the garden, as if in search for some devine or sage wisdom to impart to the Sister.
She then pulls herself upto her full height and says:
"I'm actually glad you're leaving, as you've done nothing but b*tch since the day you got here........"
