I posted a request a few weeks ago asking members to recommend a dive company on Kaui, who could do my O/W cert dives. Overwhelming, I was told to use seasport divers, as they were the best. At the time, I was also working on arrangements on my other option, which was to have the dives competed on Oahu.
The operator on Oahu gave me the price, which was reasonable to have all 4 O/W dives done in one day. When I contacted Seasport Divers, they advised me that they could only do a Max of 3 dives in a day, as per PADI rules. Why the heck was the Oahu shop willing to bend safety rules? Needless to say, I will be booking my O/W dives with Seasport. I like any company that puts my safety first, and my money second. Thanks to all those who recommended them.

Hey David.

I've never heard or worked in a OW course with more than two dives a day. If you want to consider another dive op in Oahu I dove with Jack Aarons and they were great. They even picked me up every morning at my hotel in Waikiki.

I believe I did four dives my first day out, but only three counted towards certification.

Why are they willing to bend the rules? Probably to attract customers who want the most bang for the buck.

If it's a PADI o/w certification course, then only 3 training dives are allowed per day maximum (you can certainly do less). I suppose there's nothing to say you can't do 4 dives, but 3 should only count towards certification. However, the 4th dive of the day with a diver who is not certified should still be supervised, which may then count as a training dive? I'd have to check the standards for that, but at any rate, why push it that hard to begin with?

I could be wrong, but isnt the basis of this simply that the certification dives need to take place over two seperate days?

According to the PADI Manual "Student divers may participate in a maximum of three
open water scuba dives in a single day. These dives may be a combination of required training dives and additional excursion dives.........If student divers participate in confined water training that day, they may complete no more than two open water dives."

naui also will only allow 3 training dives in a day. also no new skills can be done on the third dive of the day. It has been my experiance that most new divers have had enough for the day after two dives.
