I never seem to notice myself getting narced doing deep dives within recreational limits, task performance doesn't seem to be outside of what would be normal limits for me on the surface. So, given that I'm unlikely to be particularly resistant to narcosis and the wide variance of ability at any particular task from day to day, I can only assume that I must sometimes be suffering from nitrogen narcosis on the surface as well, causing me to tend to take reality with a grain of salt.
If your job requires consistent mental performance, but this "disability" interfered with that ability, might you be forced to do periodic nitrox dives to expose your brain to a higher partial pressure of oxygen, at your employer's expense on company time?
If they didn't buy that, in case it occurred to them that perhaps nitrogen *also* has a partial pressure, should you be bringing a nitrox tank to work, and breathing from that when sustained mental effort is required and it's not one of your good days, or even when you'd just like a bit of extra energy? (hopefully, your co-workers won't sneak in and slap a "geezer gas" sticker on your tank...)
Would it be considered extremely rude, during a boring meeting, to reach down beside you, grab the reg from the tank you brought in with you, and start sucking down nitrox?
And most importantly, if you were determined to need nitrox at work, does the ADA act mean your employer would have to supply it, and if so, could you refill your (and all of your buddies) dive tanks for free? ;-)
