A lot of divers don't know about internet boards for diving. I have friends that have been diving for 20+ years and never go to an internet dive site. Leisurepro was an eye opener for some of them.

Most of the divers (and owners) I encounter at my area LDS(s), don't seem to be familiar with SB either. I guess it shouldn't be surprising, but it does take me aback some times. I'm just used to other groups that use the internet to connect and rely upon it at their primary information source.

Dennis is it that your friends don't spend a lot of time on the internet in general, or just not for dive related reasons?

Scubaboard is a great resource for committed divers - you know, the ones with a mild obsession about diving. Folks like us.

But, when I tell other divers about it, I am immediately reminded that most divers (in the Caribbean, anyway) have only a casual interest in diving. They also enjoy golf, tennis, cooking, dancing, <fill in the blank>, and would never think of joining an internet group about any of those activities. So "why", they ask, "would I want to join an internet group about diving? It's just something I do occasionally."

We are not representative of that great mass of people who are "divers."

Personally, everything I do, I find and join a forum that supports it. Heck, say I want to know the history behind this hat I found in my granddad's basement, first thing I did was found a forum devoted to hats! Then, I do a search on that site. Forums are the way to go!

Of course, I was first directed to CaveDiver.net by a friend of a friend who does mostly cave diving. They directed me to TheDecoStop.com, which is devoted to technical diver. There, I was told my ilk was at The*********.com, their sister site, which was rather dead, but a post there mentioned Scubaboard.com, and here I am! The funny thing is, I now spend as much time watching those two forums as I do Scubaboard, as I anticipate moving into cave diving in the next year or so (as fast as I have the money to afford it! :) )

So, the idea of not knowing of any internet forum for something I am interested in is quite foreign to me. I will often ask divers I meet if they have a username on Scubaboard, and have found that about half of them do, and about half of those people are active members here.

And I'm in agreement about the stickers. I know they can be found somewhere, but I forgot where! I've even seen shirts...perhaps some kind person could find the link to where we can get them?!? I used to work at a sign shop and could get some cut out of vinyl probably for the cost of the vinyl, if I sweettalked the graphics guy a little bit, is there a way to get a relatively good quality .png or .ps or whatever version of the logo?

Wow... what a great thread to read! Thanks to all for your more than kind words.

Yes, we are the largest internet presence for all things Scuba. In fact, it appears that we reach more people each and every month than the combined circulation of all of the Scuba Magazines currently being printed. In some respects, we are the best kept secret for many divers and only YOU can help us out with this.

Yes, ScubaBoardians are a special breed. We dive way more than the average diver. We constantly worry about our weighting and trim and especially in our environment. We approach our diving with an eye to improving our skills as well as to have LOADS of fun.

But no, ScubaBoard isn't only about diving. It's about our community! It's about our commitment to each other and to the sport! You can find all you need to know about how to dive safely here and you can also find original songs by H2Andy. You can find discussions about which BC is the best as well as which restaurant is best in Cozumel. In short, we provide info for both the addicted diver as well as the merely curious.

So you want stickers??? Well we are about to unleash a contest all about :sblogo: stickers: and where you put them! Yes, there will be rules and we don't want you to deface any property or endanger any lives, but the emphasis will be on having fun! So keep an eye (and a sticker) peeled. We hope to get some shops to participate with us in this and to keep a ready supply just for you!
