My son had a great big green booger under his mask after his first dive. I had a guacamole also on my face in Jan. The mexican DM said, "you've got a guacamole", I didn't know what it meant.... I thought that scuba air is dry, why would this happen??

Is it the positive pressure in the sinuses that is blowing these mega size clots out?

I get that sometimes too, its kinda funny when the local dm that doesnt speak english to good points at your face and says "You have ??????" "how you say"

I get nose bleeds sometimes too, but I think thats from pinching my nose to equalize.

Not 100% sure but I'd say it's probably the higher pressure air plus a combination of snot-rockets to keep the sinuses clear for equalizing.

As long as you have the bag of corn chips that should be part of every diver's kit, it's no problem!! *snicker*

Okay FW, that wheezed right over my head. :hmmm:

First thing when I do on the surface after EVERY dive is to take my mask off and splash water on my face. Sometimes I don't pinch off my nose completely when I equalize and the contents can end up inside my mask. Not a pretty sight. I suspect this is what happened to you and your son.

Scubagoo.

Here's an experiment for you... go 30 minutes without breathing through your nose and see how big a booger you have to deal with afterward. The only difference when diving is that you have a mask to catch it in.
