Hey, just wanted to come on here and post a bit about myself...

The names is Richard "Frogman" Mackenzie-Luxon,
I live in Yellowknife, NT, Canada.
PADI open water cert. but working towards Master Instructor Rating.
Always looking for my next plunge into the nice cold water. If you ever wanna dive, let me know.

Burr that sounds cold. Have all I can handle with our 8-10C water down here in San Francisco ;-). Welcome to Scubaboard !!

YK Diamond Divers- anybody start a club up there yet? always looking for more Yellowknife divers for my next trip up, good to hear someones into it!

can you get airfills in Yellowknife? just curious. (or anywhere near?)

EDIT: It appears they have a dive shop there according to Google. That far north and remote... cool! Artic Scuba and Marine.

Arctic Scuba is in Nunavut, not the Northwest Territories. We used to get our air at Fire Prevention Services, they charged 20$ a fill for your own tank, but I'm sure if we established a club they would come down in price. There is Arctic Divers in yellowknife, but Canadian Dewatering bought them, not sure if they would do fills. In prosperous lake there is a mine shaft entrance just under the surface, at the point by the falls, oh I'm rusty, need to get back up there...

There is also a nice little wreck you can see on google earth by the Yellowknife River Entrance, it sticks up out of the water, but I'm sure it attracts fish, good spearfishing out there. Go Getim Diamond Divers! If you try spearfishing, use a short shaft gun, the long ones are a pain to manouver in the weeds. FYI Whitefish are Beautiful underwater, but they like to school close, too close to shoot effectively with say, a JBL 36", use a 24" max. Beware the pike...they can get mean in the spring.

I propose we start an all encompassing club for northern Alberta and the territories (Canadian Shield), just because there is so much un-surveyed water up here and there is defiantly record breaking dives that can be done...and sure it's cold, but the water is clear... shoot me an email I'll bring you up to speed on some of my projects.burton19@hotmail

Sorry I have not posed on here in a while, have been away from the computer enjoying the wonderfull warm (-20) weather.

First off, air fills can be done here in town at Fire Prevention Services, but they charge about $25 for a fill to approx 2700psi. I am working on getting a compresser to fill my own and friends as well, but that will be a while off.

I have not heard of a wreck in the yellowknife river, but I havent dove that area. I would love to get my hands on a tow fish and see what lays on the bottom. there are alot of lakes up here with no information on the bottoms, but topo maps, not even marine charts of great slave lake.

Anyone who wants to come up for a dive, I can see what we can do.
