Non-Diving Activities in Nassau, Bahamas

My wife and I are going on the Aquacat Live Aboard out of Nassau, Bahamas in early November.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to stay longer than the seven nights of our scheduled live aboard. However, our flight home on our last day doesn't leave until 4:00 P.M., and we have to be packed and off the Aquacat by 8:30 A.M. :11:

Obviously diving is out of the question, but we'd love some tips on how we can best spend our last five or six hours on the island. :06:

Recommendations of short tours, great beach spots, good restaurants for lunch, and/or good shopping spots will be appreciated. I read somewhere that we should check out the Atlantis Resort.

Definitely check out the Atlantis. It was a great place to kill time and there is plenty to do at the resort. Other than cruise ship shopping there wasn't much else to do on the island IMHO.

That's the Atlantis Resort and Casino - if you're into gambling. It's the biggest casino in the Caribbean. They also have this massive saltwater aquarium complex there, it's almost as good as diving. Shopping, beach, bars, restaurants, everything, it's like a small city all by itself. Might also be possible to drop your gear with the valet, they'd likely hold it for you while you're at the resort. We do that on layovers - never tried it there though. And it will be easy to get a ride to the airport from there. You could probably spend a week there and not see it all. www.atlantis.com

Another option:

Some years ago we had a similar problem, so we let ourselves get talked into one of the private van tours. For not a lot of money, maybe $25pp. we were driven all over Nassau with 3 other couples. Toured the Fort, expensive hillside properties, something called Queen's Falls - or similar, which was a waterfall surrounded by buildings near downtown, the local people sell crafts there, we would have never known it was there. Then we stopped at a local beach for about 1/2 hr. and finally were dropped off in the tourist market area which is 1/2 mile from the harbor. Took about 3 hrs. total. They pick up near where the cruiseships dock. Be a little demanding about leaving if the van is mostly full or they'll wait to try to cram as many people in it as possible.

Thanks for the GREAT advice. I think we'll be checking out the Atlantis Resort and Casino to see the aquariums and maybe do a little gambling (I like it; I'm just not good at it). A van tour sounds interesting as well. I've got a hunch that the Aquacat Live Aboard will store our stuff, but I'll check.
