I'm going to Voli Voli resort in Fiji later this year for a dive vacation. My wife doesn't dive so I'm wondering if there's much in the way of non-dive activities at this resort. Her idea of bliss is a week long yoga vacation.

My son went to Voli Voli in February and had a great time. I think they have kayaks, and they have a very nice beach. Beyond that I don't know. I'll send him an email, but he's tromping around on the South Island of New Zealand for two weeks so I won't hear back from him for a bit...

We walked over the the Voli Voli resort when we were in Fiji and checked it out.
The beach did look gorgeous! Not sure of what activities they had going on but it did seem like it was a younger crowd staying there. Altaskier, when your son gets back could you post some of his highlights of New Zealand? We are headed there this coming October and do not have a thing planned yet except the plane flights!
Thanks!

no way yoga there. young backpack crowd, sand bar / pool bar etc
this backpack group also comes in once or twice a week and can party pretty hard.
cool if you like to party, but yoga - forget it.

Thanks guys. We enjoy kyacking together as well.

I'll probably buy her a Kindle and load up a dozeon or so books for her. She'll be pretty happy to sit on the beach and read for a week too!

i'd be going along the coast to wananavu - beach, lounge chairs, spa, plenty room to go do yoga. she wont even know your gone

they have Jetski's and Parasailing.. a young backpacker environment - don't know about yoga

Volivoli is fast becoming an upscale dedicated dive resort. Beautiful new air conditioned accommodations and public areas, pool, swimup bar, great sun bathing, nice beach, snorkel or dive right off it. Or, ask to be taken to the island just a bit away from the resort for the better snokeling. Massage building should be in by next year or before where you'll be able to get your oceanview massage. Yes, Volivoli started as a backpacking facility while the owners were building the new accommodations. It was a great way to get some revenue until they had the "real" resort built. That is why they also were providing dive services to Wananavu, which ends 31May, by the way. The resort is now ready to pack the place with divers so Ra Divers (in-house) will only be providing dive services to their own resort guests after 31May. The resort still has nice dorms - ocean view, no less. FeeGee Experience bus brings the younger crowd in for an over night a couple times a week but when our dive group was there in 2009 and again this past Feb, us "old" divers took over the place. So, you'll still see backpackers ordering food but that is about it. Times change and Volivoli Beach is becoming the hot new dive resort if you want to dive Bligh Waters. Resort and dive operator both owned by one family who are on-site. Remember, Bob and Rina at Matava Resort on Kadavu? They retired and I thought the family-owned dive resort would be a thing of the past. Not so. We've got a wonderful one sitting right at the edge of the best diving in Fiji. The resort is very accommodating to non-divers. You can explore the town of Rakiraki with one of the staff as a guide, hike the hills (or hike to your room, Volivoli's great views come from their accommodations winding up and around a hill. Your leg muscles will get a work out), go horseback riding, even visit a native village. But this is a remote place and it isn't foo foo in the least. It has what divers want and need. If you want the honeymoon/wedding place or all kinds of spa services, then Blighbaby is correct. But, if your idea of heaven is being in the most beautiful place on earth with the best views I've seen anywhere, right from your own room or your own private Villa, while sipping a glass of wine or relaxing by the pool or sitting at the swim up pool bar, or walking that magnificant sand bar that juts out from the beach at low tide, then Volivoli (means white sand) is the place for you. For the non-diver at loose ends waiting for "her man" to come home from the sea, the restaurant/bar is always open. If you want a drink or want to order lunch, you can do it any time at your convenience. Meals are not prepared "institutional" style as is the case at other dive resorts in Fiji. You make your choice off the blackboard menus, place your order at the counter and your meal is cooked fresh right then for you. Awesome! Your wife will love it. But, get her a Kindel anyway. Nothing better than reading a good book while in paradise.

Perfect! His blog helped me with a decision that had to be made on which way to go towards the end of our trip!
