I'm going to Florida in November for business and would like to take a day and dive. Looking at doing a two tank dive in Jupiter, but would only be able to do it the day before I fly out. What would be proper no fly time I see 12 hours, 18 hours & 24 hours. About what time would a 2 dive trip end? Don't have many return flight options, probably a 5:45 a.m. I figured if last dive ends at 1:00, that would give me about 16 hours. Thoughts? Comments?

I'll actually be in Kissamee on business and would drive to Jupiter to dive. How's the diving in mid November?

Thanks

Air or Nitrox?

Maximum depth?

I would do it, but you are not me.

on a scale of safe from 0-10 for me I would put 16 hours at about 8. I have no research to back this up, it is my opinion for me only.

I loved Jupiter but dove it in July.

If I recall correctly, DAN says 12 hours for a single no-stop dive, and "longer than 12 hours" for repetitive dives or dives over multiple days. I believe most interpret "longer" as 18 hours. I see 24 hours mentioned only for particularly aggressive diving.

The dives we did out of Jupiter were in the 27-28 meter range. I believe we were back at the dock prior to 2pm, diving with Jupiter Dive Center. This was in May, I think, though I doubt the season changes the dive schedule significantly. I think they did the furthest dive first and then the "closer" dive second, which gave us about 30 minute ride back to the pier after everyone was on the boat. If you're the first in last out type, you might be close to pushing it, but I'd probably go ahead and do it. If you're really worried, skip the second dive or keep them both shallow and use Nitrox.

There is no real hard evidence on safety about no-fly time. It's all empirical or "expert opinion". So on the safe side everybody says 24 hours, or maybe 18 at least. Of course it would be safer to dive Nitrox. Nobody is going to tell you, you are 100% safe, but 16-18 hours and using Nitrox you''ll prolly be fine.

DAN says 18hrs (after repetitive days of diving) . The computer manufacturers (& their insurance carriers) say 24 hrs.

Your call.

Be careful about blindly following the "dive nitrox and you will be safe advice".

Nitrox is only "safer" if you dive like you had air (except for the MOD bit, stick to nitrox MOD).

If you dive the exact same profile, then yes, nitrox will have less nitrogen loading than air and is safer.

But if you dive it like nitrox (longer deeper) you can get just as close to NDL on nitrox as you can with air. I often see nitrox divers who come way closer to NDLs than some air divers on the same dive. The nitrox users stayed just a little deeper for just a little longer (because they could because they were diving nitrox which is "safer") and ended up closer to NDL. So their default behaviour when using nitrox was in fact not safer than air. It was less safe.

So the "dive nitrox" advice needs to be combined with "use an appropriate profile" considerations.

So dive nitrox and stay shallow would be appropriate advice in this situation.
