Just got my first BCD this weekend--and was reading the manual. I noticed a peculiar notation about the use of nitrox. The manual said that I would need to have an authorized dealer perform a conversion for use with Nitrox--and that if I ever used standard air after that, the the conversion would have to be repeated each time.

What's up with that? Is it legit...or some sort of CYA by the manufacturer?

The BCD is a Mares Limited Edition Morphos Metal Tech.

The BCD is a Mares Morphous Pro LE Metal.
Are you talking about this?

If so ... I cannot imagine what they could possibly do to your BCD that would make a bit of difference.

I would be interested if, in fact, you are reading the manual correctly ... as I have never heard of a BCD requiring any such thing before.

Unless you are doing partial fills through your BCD, I would not worry about NitrOx having an adverse affect on it.

From the manual:

MARES supplies its authorized dealers with a kit for converting
MARES BCs for use with oxygen rich mixtures (Nitrox - maximum
oxygen content: 40%). If, after the conversion, the BC is used with
normal compressed air, it will be necessary for a trained MARES
technician to repeat the entire conversion procedure before using the
BC with oxygen-rich mixtures again. This is because the BC may be
contaminated with traces of hydrocarbons or other impurities that
could spark combustion.
WHEN REPAIR OR SERVICING IS REQUIRED, IT SHOULD ONLY BE
PERFORMED BY A MARES OR DACOR AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER
 WARNING
Do not use any MARES BC with oxygen rich mixtures (Nitrox
- Maximum oxygen content: 40%) without having first
received adequate training on their use: Failure to observe
this warning may result in a serious accident.

Well butter my butt and call me a bisquit!

maybe they're afraid someone will use 100% O2 to inflate the BC and the
thing will blow up or something

Hmmm - wonder if they'll have a similar set of phraseology for their masks soon - after all, when using EAN, you're still exhaling an enriched O2 mixture when clearing your mask (you only drop the O2 content about 9% from inhale to exhale).

whatever you do, don't SNEEZE INTO THAT MASK!

Good to see that ya'll are just as amazed by this as I was. The only thing that I could possibly assume is that the metal weaving in the cloth to make this BC has something to do with it???

As popular as NitrOx is becoming, this sure did catch me off-guard!
