I'm shopping for a Canister light and I found The Nite Rider HID light. It looks much smaller than other Can light with the same output. I like to know if anyone here tried using this light? Please let me know what it's like compare to the can light.

Zcuba Tech (Sukhumvit 79) carries them—maybe they’ll let you try?

I have owned a nitrider blackwater 3000 for about 4 years and am still very happy with it. My next HID will be niterider I think

I got to try a Nite Rider 10W HID light yesterday. The battery container is flat and rectangular, and was very easy to attack to the waist belt of my BC and sat comfortably there. The light head was TINY, sat in a soft wrist bracelet so easily that I was almost unaware it was there. The light was very good, although the beam is a little diffuse for punching through Puget Sound murk, compared with my friend's Terkel light.

According to my LDS, these lights are used by the police divers in our area because of their excellent durability.

This is high on my list of possibilities for my imminent light purchase.

What are the pro and cons of this light comparing with other can lights like Diverite or Halcyon. Is the beam tight enough for signaling? Is it suitable for DIR style diving?

Pros - compact package, sealed canister (no lid or latches to fail), exceptionally durable ... this light is by far the most reliable HID light I've ever used, outstanding customer support from NiteRider ... about the best I've received from any dive manufacturer

Cons - the beam is more a flood than a spot

I own one ... and although I like it a lot, it's not good for DIR-style diving. For that I have a 10W Terkel and a 21W Mutant.

Bob, I like how your light has gone from a Halcyon to a Handroff to just 'mutant' now :eyebrow:

LOL - it's back with Barry for more radiation treatment even as we speak ... ;)

Thanks for all replies from you guys :-)

Bob is right! I prefer tight beam for DIR style diving.

I just got my Dive rite 10w HID with wreck canister today. Can't wait to get it under soon. BTW, anyone know where I can get MR11 bulb for spare?
