NIOSH releases Public Safety Diver fatality report...

The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has published the details of a public safety diving line of duty death. IADRS members Steve Orusa and Craig Jenni were recognized in the report acknowledging their professional assistance.

The IADRS Annual Basic Scuba Skills Evaluation form was also printed in the appendix of the report.

Wow. Interesting read and very sad. Thanks for posting.

A very good report, well investigated, researched and written.

But let's call a spade a spade. An off-duty firefighter in his own boat, using his own gear with no formal PSD training having an SCUBA accident while trying to affect a rescue no matter how heroic, is a hero who gave his life trying to save another, but not a PSD accident.

(I am however using this as a study with our newbies on why we follow protocols and SOP's)
