Hi all, anyone know if you can use the new 60mm with a non nikon teleconverter, read somewhere that you cant????

If not will it work ok with a nikon one?

I have used my Kenko 2x teleconverter on my Nikkor AFD 60mm Macro with success. Recommend a bright focusing light as focus lock is hard to get in lower light conditions.

Kenko teleconverter is alot cheaper also.

Another option which is more versatile is a woodies type wet lens which you and put on when you want the higher magnification when you want it and take it off when you dont need it. I believe that some woodies style wet lens dioptics are about $100 which are cheaper than a teleconverter.

Regards Mark

Thanks Mark read on the underwater photography guide that one of the differences between the old 60mm and the new one was that the old one would work with the Kenko

have a look at the section old vs new 60mm

macro lens comparison 60mm 100mm 105mm|Underwater Photography Guide

but i dont understand why it would not work with the kenko if it would work with the nikkon?

hey, Mark, Ozza

- just to clarify, I have read in many places that the new AF-S 60mm will not auto-focus and/or work with any teleconverter, including the Nikon TC-17 EII. If you find out otherwise, please let me know.

Like mark said, the kenko won't auto-focus with the new AF-S version, which imho renders it useless as an underwater combination.

Mark, I believe the reason the nikon link you referenced does not list the new 60mm AF-S as incompatable with the nikon teleconverter is because the nikon site only addresses focal lengths greater than 100mm, it's only us underwater photographers that usually use teleconverters with small focal lengths like 60mm :)

thanks both, anyone fancy swapping a new 60mm with an old one????

Thanks for info Scott.

I am glad I bought the AF-D version. Cheaper, can use Kenko TC ;-)

Ozza....ebay the AF-S and then you have the money for a new AF-D and a Kenko TC

Regards Mark

good call, listed on ebay, fingers crossed
