Hey all,

I need your help in getting the list of exact items to buy for my Nikon D80, I'll be buying on-line and don't want to discover that I missed an adaptor of so..

My kit includes:
1- D80 Body.
2- Nikkor 18-135 Zoom lens "with close up adaptors!"
3- Nikon SB-105 Strobe Öriginally sold for the greate Nokonos-V
4- I'll be getting a Nikkor 60mm Macro lense soon as well

I know which body to buy from Ikelite :) however I need your assisance to specify the list of other items to get with the housing to make my lense functioning. For the strobe, I'm getting an Ikelite DS-125 Deluxe stobe Package however I need my SB-105 to be functioning as a slave as well.

So what other items do I need to buy??
Appreciate if you can give me the part numbers.

Thanks a million

Hi Ray,

I am a Sea&Sea user, but I think you will be able to find your answers here:
Ikelite - Nikon Ports

By the way, I live in Dubai and I am planning to go diving in Egipt, south of Hurghada (Safaga) or maybe even more to the south... in January 2009. Do you have any place/operator to suggest in the area? I was in Safaga in 2000 and I really liked it.
I need at least a few very easy dives for my wife, and we do not like drift-dives, but wrecks are welcome.

Any tips?
Thanks!

Hey Mariozi,

Thanks for the reply. Actually I rviewed this port page many times however I feel really lost when I go through the modular port system and try to find a combination of parts that are flexible and can be used with multiple lense setups ;)

Regarding South diving, I really urgue you to go furthur to south, particularily Marsa Allam. Its really the divers's heaven!!

I'd suggest you the nice diver's camp of Marsa Shagra, here is the operator's site
"www.redsea-divingsafari.com", actually they operate 3 wonderful sites, and I'm their regular guest, for my fun dives, since around 5 years. In Marsa Shagra, you can get an All inclusive package, inclusive of accomodation, 3 hot meals, water & drinks, 2 guided dives/day, and above all unlimited house reef dives on Buddy system.
The house reef overthere is really a rich one whatever you are looking for, you can find it just few meeters from the easy, nicely sloping entry pount!

Wish you and your wife all the fun in your trip and I'd be pleased to give you more details shall you need any.

Dive safely,
Ahmed.

The 18-135 is not well-suited to UW use. It is too long both physically and in focal length. the 18-70 is much sharper and better.

The SB-105 probably won't work well. There won't be TTL and you'll only have a couple of control steps. It is a pretty old strobe. There isn't a good way to get it to work with Ikelite.

Far be it from me to question the views of a pro, especially as I am a still a filmosaur, but a good friend of mine who is a professional u/w photographer gets wonderful results with his D200 with dual SB105's. I believe he uses the 1/16th power setting a lot of the time.

I'm not saying it won't work, just that you don't have a lot of control.
