It is the replacement for the D90 but for underwater photography it seems to have most of the things we want without the options we don't care about as much as dryland shooters. IMHO this is a better camera than the D300s. I have committed to the D7000 but interested in seeing the D200 replacement.

The D7000 is priced n the price range of the D90 when it was announced. Nikon is continuing the sell the D90 too, reducing price, to cover all the bases.

Nikon is due to replace the aging D300s. The "D400" might be a more rugged version of the D7000, same sensor, better package and electronics, maybe a few more pro features. I'd expect them to release before Christmas; they may wait for the next major show, either Photokina 9/21 or Photoplus 10/28.
