hey i have a d40 and i have a 18-55 and a 18-200

any idea what lens i should get ? im about to buy a ikelite case so need to know what port to get

I second the sigma 10-20. I don't use dSLR uw, but this lens, being relatively cheap (~400$) is super cool.

Look at what rockwell says...
Digital Wide Zooms

When used correctly, basically meaning very close to the subject, you have amazing results. I'd wish I can use it u/w, but i didnt want to risk the dslr set up, and staid with a P&S :depressed: (the Panasonic Zs3, which is super cool for video, as another post have said).

Note: the D40 with the 1/250 sync would probably give excellent results as well.

have fun !

My GF, Adm. Linda shoots a D40 in an Aquatica housing and wins contests.

1. Check total cost of ownership. Adm. Linda found that an Aquatica housing
was cheaper than Ikelite because she didn't have to buy synch cords. I had
a bunch of Nikon single synch cords (and I suspect they are cheap on e-bay)

2. For macro, the 60 mm would be the first choice lens.

3. If you dive Melbourne, the 18-whatever isn't wide enough. Melbourne
is a lot like Monterey vis-wis, so you need to get REALLY close. For
wide-angle in Monterey, I shoot the RS 13 mm and get RIGHT UP THERE.
That's on a full-frame sensor.. Your 18-whatever would be a 27-whatever.
I know several people that are happy with the Sigma 10-whatever.

When you've made your lens and housing manufacturer(s) decisions, get
back with us to make sure you have all the right stuff.

I use three lenses almost 99 percent of the time: Nikon 10.5 fisheye, Nikon 12-24; and Nikon 60 mm macro.

Ahhh, the question has been asked~answered a bunch, just take away the name D40! :D

Most UW photographers do super-wide, wide, macro, and maybe a bigger macro.

I shoot a 12~24mm, an 18~35mm, and a 60mm macro. Another popular lens is the 105mm macro but I don't own one.

Avoid lenses that grow a lot (zooms 3x+), and make sure the lens you purchase fits in an available port.

Chances are you are going to need a dome port, and a port for whatever macro you choose, or fixed lens you may like.
