I've found 10 to 20 Nikon D40 books, guides, etc out there for sale on the web.

Anyone have any of them and can make some reccomendations as to which are good and which aren't? (or any reviews of them)

I bought the Magic Lantern DVD guide for my wife and she loved it. She was having a hard time making the transition to a DSLR from a P&S and this made an awful lot clear to her. She said it really helped with understanding the menus and what everything meant. That being said, I haven't used it, so it's based on her recommendations. Good luck!

These books come highly rated. Amazon.com: Nikon D40/D40x Digital Field Guide: Books: David D. Busch

Elite video makes a DVD for your camera that is supposed to be pretty good, but I have no experience. They seem to cover more how too, rather than just buttonology. You can search ebay for "D40 video" and it will come up with a couple. Cheaper than Elite's website by far. NIKON D40/ D40X MADE EASY DVD BY ELITE VIDEO - (eBay item 130182182788 end time Dec-16-07 22:11:15 PST)

There is a video on their website.

I have the David Brusch book for my D200, but just purchased the Elite videos yesterday to see if I could gain a little more insight into my D300. It will still be a while before I can house my camera, which is why I upgraded before purchasing a housing.

How do you delete a double post?

Just report the post to the mods, and we will take care of it. You can also edit it IF you do so within 2 hours (I think) of posting, and remove the content to be replaced with something like dup post. The post does not go away, but it has the same effect.

A professional photographer has really taken to the D40 and wrote a nice user manual for it at Nikon D40 User's Guide. He also has a list of photography books at Photography Books and Magazines. Nothing specific to the D40 but there are a couple on the list specific to Nikon cameras. His site seems to be one of the best on the web for information about the D40/D40x. He has several other pages discussing them (this page is a good starting point: Recommended Cameras).
