GREAT - soon after it hits the market a ton of used D200 housing will be available to pick up at half cost. Thats how I got my D100 housing - got to love it!

That's a great idea, but the D300 realy makes me really lust after a DSLR for the first time.

The dimensions of the D300 are almost identical to the D200, so there is a good chance it will fit into the same housing. However, I'm not sure about the layout of the buttons and controls, but they appear to be the same at first glance.

With a sensor that is 3" vs. 2.5" it's highly likely that the back button controls will be in a different spot even if the layout looks very similar. The LCD will surely not be fully visible if one is using a D300 in the D200 housing assuming it fits.

No, my bet is that the D300 will get a new housing. The good news is that the D200 is such a good camera that one really does not need a D300 UW to get fabulous results.

I'll likely start saving my pennies, but not for UW, rather topside.

Heh, I did not say worthless, just obsolete! I still shoot my D1x. I've been looking at an excuse to replace my D1x, now I have TWO!

You might as well just get the D3, it is only a little bit more money :D

Obsolete?? Only if one must have the latest and the greatest. I still use my Fuji S1 & S2 for topside work without a problem. Oh, and a Nikon FM and FE for film work.

I just hung an 11x14" enlargement of a flower that my 10 year-old daughter made with the S1. A 2.25Mb file, no post-work, and it is very nice.

I'll think about a Fuji S5 if, and only if, I really need it for paying work.

If it's only the back buttons on the D300 that are reconfigured it's possible that you could just get a new back for your D200 housing to make it work.

That said, I'll keep my money and my D200. I love it, and am not looking to change. For me, the best thing about the D300 is that I will be able to pick up a second (and maybe 3rd) D200 body.
