At nearly 8" long, 42 oz. I don't think it would be too useful UW. Also, while the close focus limit is .5m, you don't get 1:1 until you're down to 10". If you want a long UW macro lens, I think the 105mm is a better bet.

I think larry summed it up nicely. 200mm is just too long for underwater use.
This lens was immortalized by David Doubilet and his buddies in the Film era.
On DX bodies the 105mm acting as a 160mm get's close but not quite there.
If you want more power than a 105mm that's THE lens, as it is VERY sharp.
I have been shooting for years with a 105mm from film to DX, recently I bought a 60mm but this was and still is a dream lens!!! Perfect for small fast moving subjects that are hard to approach like gobies and small fish.
WARNING: Not for the usual faint-of-heart that thinks t fisheye lenses and long micros are "difficult" to work with though.
