Nikon 18-55mm lens for underwater - review

I tried this lens over the last couple of days on my D80 backup rig and found it often have difficulty in focusing even with subjects lit up by my LED dive light. Very fustrating lens to use and I wouldn't be bothering using it in the near future.

Mark, it always focused instantly for me. Were you using it with a diopter?

Hi Scott, I didnt use a diopter as I had it behind the 6inch Ikelite dome. I might give it another go with the Diopter as see if that makes any difference.

Mark, I used a +2 diopter and an 8-inch dome port. I'm not surprised it wouldn't focus for you.

With the 6-inch dome port the virtual image is even closer so you may even want to try a +4 diopter, or preferable a larger dome port. Good luck!

Thanks Scott. I will give it a go.

I had my 8 inch Dome on my D90 with my tokina 10-17mm and my buddy was playing the 18-55mm behind the 6 inch dome. I never used the 18-55 much before.
