Just wanted to advice on city life. Is there any place that offers good diving, that can compete with the city life and diving in Cozumel??

As for nightlife, Playa del Carmen has a much bigger and better nightlife then San Miguel. It's a much bigger town with more restaurants and bars. Similiar if food quality.
But the diving is better in Cozumel, in my opinion.

Depends where. Cancun has more than plenty night life, if you are into clubbing. Can't speak for PDC since I've never been there. Diving is good from Cancun to PDC. From PDC to Tulum, the cave diving is extraordinary!
