Hello,
My name is Yvan and residential in Belgium (sorry for my bad english:D )
I am following this forum for some time and also i have bought the camera with housing.
Provisionally i will work only with the camera and housing, since this is my first UW-camera experience.
I will take along the camera for a divingtrip in warm, clear water. Visibility under water about 15 yards.
For the white balance i will take along a piece of white plastic so i can adjust the white balance.
I will only use the camera with housing (no external flash or extra lenses). For macro i will try to use a handheld lamp with diffuser and the internal flash.
Also i have a few questions to ask, i would be pleased if someone could help me?
Which resolution should i use to take the UW-pictures?
If I would get a picture from, for example a nearby swimming turtle, witch settings should I use?
Is it possible to use supermacro and internal flash?
If I take a picture in RAW, can I burn them by means of PC on a disk and make some adjustments (colours, etc...) later on?
Witch basic settings do i use for my modes?
If someone has more tips or solutions, I would gladly hear them.

Kind regards
Yvan

That's a link to "getting started". It's in the Canon section, but the basics are pretty much the same no matter what brand of camera you are using.

Shoot RAW underwater. Make sure your software can handle the Oly RAW files. You can burn RAW files to a disk just like any other file, but you will need the proper software to open them and work on them. Photoshop CS2 and PS Elements 4 both handle your files (I think)...

Thank you for your response.
It would be great to have a thread for each camera.
I want to safe all my pics on disk (even those in RAW), during the holiday and try to "adjust" them when i get home. I have only 2 memorycards (1GB) to use, so it will be best to store them on a few disks.

Yvan -

There are several threads specifically on the Oly 350 - you'll need to have a bit of a look around and maybe do a search.

There is really no need for a "getting started" for each individual camera as the basics of photography are essentially the same no matter what system you use. When you get beyond the very first steps that's when it's good to ask specific questions like "how to I find the white balance menu on this model" or "my photos always seem to be overexposed when I use the internal flash - has anyone else had this happen with this model? and how did you fix it?" (this last one comes up with the Canon A series and very close macros...it's dealt with in Canon AND other models by decreasing the output of the internal flash which is found in one of the submenus)

Hope this helps!
