Hi everyone

Another newbie here. Got my OW in April and have been diving as much as possible every weekend. Have a rig dive planned for mid Aug and a dive to Cozumel the last week of Aug where I"ll get my AWO. So I'll be nice and wet next month. Mostly dive at Blue Laggon on the weekends...close to home. If any one is going that way or needs a buddy send me PM.

Here in my local waters of Southern California an Oil Rig dive is an Advanced dive due to depth (300 feet or more to the bottom) and currents and by advance they don't mean the C-card, they are referring to ability. It may be different in your part of the world.

Before you go to dive the oil rigs, be sure to do all the homework on the site, depth to the ocean floor, currents, rules (can't touch the rigs here and the boat can't anchor or tie up to the rigs) of the dive. Then honestly evaluate your skills against these requirements such as can you stop your decent and maintain your depth (60 feet for BOW) over a 300 foot bottom and stay under the rigs in strong open ocean currents? Personally, I am just now considering going to the oil rigs.

Cozumel is drift diving. Hop in, get neutral, and just cross your legs and arms and watch the reef as you drift by (sometimes at considerable speed) and you should have fun. I recommend taking your own gear (minus weights and tank) as the rental stuff I saw there was in very poor condition and I would not recommend using it.
 
Thanks for the info....Rig diving here is 60 to 100 feet, best vis usually around 60. Current can be a little strong so I usually stay within the Rig structure. Looking forward to Cozumel and drift driving, will be taking my own gear...minus tank and weights.
