Hi Everyone,
I'm new to diving and already have a couple of trips planned (Key Largo in July and Isla Mujeres in October), but am dying to get in the water. I've completed my open water training, but have yet to make my first "real" dive. I'm finishing up an enriched air course on June 19th too. I was just hoping that someone in Charleston or the surrounding areas was looking to buddy up and plan a couple of more local dives as soon as possible. Let me know what you think. Also, if anyone out there has any advice on diving spots/shops in Key Largo or Isla Mujeres, your input would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

WELCOME TO :sblogo:
Check out the Deep Dixie Divers Forum. http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/deep-dixie-divers/ We are always looking at reasons to go get wet! We have some mega dives planned for October and would love for you to join us! I wouldn't mind heading up to Charleston area for diving too! Just let me know!

Happy diving!

Thanks for the warm welcome. Carolyn, I've read a couple of your other posts. Seems like you're not afraid of a little adventure. I'm especially envious of the shark experiences. Sounds like a blast. So, what kind of diving does one enjoy off the coast of Georgia? Deep dixie divers sounds like a lot of kindred spirits. I've read a lot of threads today and look forward to becoming more involved. What do you have coming up in October? I'm very interested. Anyways, getting back to work. Just wanted to say "thanks" for the prompt reply and the kindness. Please keep me in mind whenever anything comes up where you need an extra man. Anytime you make it up the coast a little ways, let me know and we'll try to get a dive in.

You are right about adventurous! There hasn't been a shark yet I haven't liked!:D

Actually since there are ony a couple dive operators, the reefs are full of fish and pristine! There are many wrecks and dive sites so depending on how rough the water, the average vis can be 20-30'. My LDS just went out this past weekend! Going Offshore today 5-30-08 - Scubamarket USA: Savannah Scuba Forum They also head out to Gray's Reef. Depending on the time of year, you can see the pilot whales, whale sharks, reef sharks, and abundance of large barracuda! I was working so I missed out. I am happy to open my home to divers, so if you want to buddy up, please PM me and come on down for a weekend!

Another dive operator for offshore Georgia is CAPTAIN WALT. You can find him in my friends list!

The DEEP DIXIE DIVERS have been a blessing to me! I have had so much fun diving with them and have developed very close friendships with quite a few!

Carolyn,
I'm not quite as tech-saavy as I'd like to think, so could you tell me how to PM you? I just went to scubamarket USA and read the latest thread from the dive this past weekend. Looked awesome! I also got into diving because a good friend of mine goes spearfishing almost every weekend during the summer here in Charleston. Sounds like this group appreciates the value of a good dive as well as a good hunt. I like that. I went ahead and signed up for this group and, just in case, joined up with the blackbeard scuba club (figure I'll make it down there at least once or twice, and it never hurts to throw in a little membership money to a club of good people). What is the opinion of the dive community, in general, about spearfishing? Does anyone out there think that it's cruel and/or against the fundamentals of ecofriendly/passive diving? I would just hate to offend anyone. Are the dives usually $175 like the one last weekend was? Just trying to get an idea of how much I should expect to spend on these endeavours. Thanks again for the feedback. I'm going to do some more searching around now. I guess to hang with you guys down there I need to complete my advanced open water certification, so I'm going to start actively working on that. Any favorite dives in the certification? Recommendations always appreciated...especially recommended dives that are applicable to our area. Talk to you soon.
