Hi all. Just joined the Board and hoping someone can help me. Last month I booked a dive(for me and my son) and spa (for my wife) vaca at Caneel Bay in January. Bought the tickets, reserved the hotel, and since we had been there six years ago and saw Chris Sawyer's on-site dive operation, sent them an email to book the diving. Hearing nothing, I called the hotel to find out that Sawyer was out of business there, on the heels of closing his St. Thomas operation in 2008.

So now I am stuck with a dive vacation with no dive operator! Hopefully I can get some advice here - I have heard mixed reviews about both Cruz Bay and Low Key, although not much recently. Anyone have recent experience to share, positive or negative? Are there any alternatives?

Also curious if you know whether any of the St. John operators dive the channel between St. John and St. Thomas. I know the Rhone is a weekly trip, but wondering about the closer wreck sites.

Thanks in advance!

Well, thanks all for the overwhelming response. Oh, sorry, no reponse from anyone, so no thanks. I picked an operator and made the trip. Have views as to diving St. John and the operator I used, but... I seem to be driving on a one-way street here. No reason to engage in a monologue in an empty room...

Easy now Beej. This Intro forum doesn't get the traffic that some of the other forums get. And a lot of the people here are newer divers that may not have the experience to help answer your question.

You might try posting your trip report in this forum:

Lesser Antilles - ScubaBoard

I'm sure that a search for dive ops in St. Johns in that forum would have given you some direction before the trip.

Hope you got some good dives in.

I love St. Johns. I have very fond memories of Low Key and the Pusser's bar next door. There is not much wreck diving there as i recall only a coast guard tub sunk in the bay. I dove all around the place and had fun. The British Virgin Islands are also fun with the HMS Rhone, Salt Island, Virgin Gorda all was arrnaged for me thru Low Key. I will retire to St Johns in about 10 years when my worldly business travels end. Oh by the way, there are wonderful small seafood restaurants all around the place.

Hi Beej100 - sorry that you didn't get any replies. I will be going to St. John's this January and would love to hear any advice you have.
