So I pulled the trigger and just received my inon z240 strobe and I am reading the owners manual. My questions is about sttl. My camera is not listed as being compatible in sttl mode with this strobe. If it is not, no biggie, as I am used to shooting in manual mode, but my is (I am using an opitcal connection) why wouldn't it be if it fires a pre-flash? There is no specific sort of electronics that need to "talk the same language" that I am missing, is there?

It will work. Set your P5100 to full auto/program. Set the Inon to work with the preflash and mode to sTTL and LOW. Also you have a switch for preflash/no preflash unlike the D2000 that uses a magnet to actuate an internal switch. Now set the P5100 to Forced flash. Fire in the hole.
