Sure it's shocking to see a 10ft long reeftank in anyone's house...but you can also shock em by going the opposite direction with palmtop reefs. This is serious marine science, when you see these in motion you can tell this is no fly by night idea. These reefs outlast 80% of the large tanks started by the masses, these are ethically sound as well in that there is positive coral growth, to be exported, not a consumptive lifespan that plagues many tanks. I never wanted to spend the money on a large reef tank so I built a portable one that looks like a giant 180 gallon tank in miniature scale, complete with about $700 worth of live coral that reproduces and is traded/sold into other tank systems. Reef aquariums do not require any type of filtration even though 30 years of literature says so and the guys who've spent 10 grand, a fishbowl will work and here's the videos to prove it. here you go!
