Hi all,

I have come up with a new device that is designed for rec. scuba. This will allow you to talk to your buddy(s) underwater without the requirement of any change of gear (octo, reg etc.) and can be applied quickly.

More importantly, I expect the cost of the device to be a fraction of the "full face mask" comms and significantly better quality than the one that you have to grit your teeth to use.

What I would like to know is if there is already any systems out there that are under $200 and don't use the 2 mentioned methods (full face, teeth grit) to work?

Also, as I'm a relative newbie to scuba - what is your interest in such a product?

thanks

If there was an underwater comm system available for under $200, there would be a buttload of divers using it.

I'd be interested! -- Walter

Ditto. There have been all kinds of stuff tried, from a water bottle looking thing in the 70's to a more recent thing that looked like a lawn mower muffler. There was even a video of this one where you could hear them talking underwater with it. The only thing you could understand after a while was "What? What'd ya say?".

In the early days of the board there was a challenge on this. I'd have to do some searching to see if that was still in the archives.

But, sure, I think there are some that would be interested in seeing what you have in mind.

Scubapro bought the patent and will be releasing it in late Q3 2007. Problem is that only ScubaPro dealers can sell it and they can't sell it online and they can't sell it for less than the 10% off MSRP of $1499.99. Now you know that I am just kidding, I wouldn't expect any release if there was going to be one till next year at the earliest.
