There are two folks I not sure I should say thanks to Gbundersea and Dee.

Oh sure I now have new toys 'cause Dee described the save-a-lens kit that Greg has available. Well I went to his site, and there was the cable that allowed you to extend the strobe off the MX10. So next thing I know it, I'm now the proud owner of toys for my camera.

Easy to put together, now I just have to get U/W to play. Easy instructions, great customer service.

I guess I should say thanks to the two of them, after all a girl can't have too many toys.:D

Uh....You're welcome....I think!

I want to see the fiber optic cable in action. If it had been available 3-4 years ago, I'd still be using my old MX-10!

Honest -- it was a BIG thank-you Dee.

I'll be bringing the setup to Wreckmania, so you'll get to see it then.

Hi DG,

I'd love more info on this cable thingy for the strobe on the MX-10. I know it exists, but don't have one yet.

Funny story on the camera - as you may remember, we bought it just prior to our Tahiti Trip. So we fly to Tahiti, and then have an inter-island flight to Manihi where we'll have our first under water experiences. Unfortuanately we had a mad scramble of re-packing prior to this inter-island flight because we had Way Too Much Stuff, due to the 2nd week of vacation being a cruise. No crisis - we just left 2 bags in storage at the airport. The one important thing we left behind - the instructions for the MX-10! Lydia had been reading them on one of the previous flights down, so they got separated from the camera case.

Conviently, 2 of the other divers on our first trip were professional UW photographers from France. They gave us a few pointers so we weren't completely lost...

Happy Diving,

Scuba-sass :)

Well "sis" the cable thingy allows for the strobe to be extended off the camera. The set up available from Greg at GBUnderSea will allow you to make the connection then either leave it in the standard mounting position or you have to hold the strobe off the camera in the location you want it. Although I think this is great, I'm still learning how to take good camera shots, I didn't want to also have to deal with holding the strobe in the proper location -- didn't want to over task myself. So I also elected to get the set-up to fixed extension setup.

After a few questions about my camera, Greg determined that I had a newer model (as I think you probably do too) with a screw mounting at the bottom. Because of this he was unable to sell me the fixed extension setup (the new cameras require Sea&Sea's own extension parts) - but showing great customer service provided me with a list of three companies who could sell the items to me. I elected to go with B&H Video.

Everything arrived within a few days of each other. Now I just have to go diving with it to really test everything out. It's snowing outside right now (so far about 3cm, but we may get upto 10 --- sigh) so I'm really bummed out.

Great Info!

Not sure I can afford the toys just yet, but I saved the sites so I can refer to them later.

Happy Diving (if it ever warms up for you!),

DG....does your MX-10 strobe attach to a base plate? I'm sort of confused

DivingGal and Dee,

Thank you both for your many kind comments, and your referrals. I appreciate them very much.

I wanted to make one small clarification about using the MXTENDER with an arm setup. We don't manufacture an arm ourselves; rather, we offer MXTENDER options which allow the attachment of a Sea&Sea or compatible arm. There are too many good, reasonably priced arms out there, and it would be counterproductive for us to try and compete. We'd rather stick to what we do best.

Both the newer MX-10's (with the threaded socket in their bottom) and the older ones use whatever arm you choose, as well as our Strobe Arm Adapter. The difference lies in which base is needed. Newer MX-10's use a Sea&Sea or compatible base, to which the camera attaches via the threaded socket. Older cameras cannot attach to ANY standard base. In order to support the many customers who own the older, non-threaded MX-10's, we offer the MX-Base, which integrates with the MXTENDER to allow an arm system to be attached.

As a side note, Sea&Sea's copycat fiber optic cable has NO provision whatsoever for adding an arm system, which is but one of its many shortcomings. We have heard considerable feedback from both dealers and users who find the MXTENDER to be far superior in every respect.

DG, I thank you again, and look forward to your first post-dive report! As always, if I can ever be of service, do let me know.
