Hi all,

I'm a total noob to scuba diving so I decided to join this lovely site to get some insight on what gear to buy, great places to dive, etc. I'm currently doing the elearning portion of my PADI Open Water Diver course. It's very unfortunate that the only dive center here in the province is charging me an extra $400 to do the OW + dry suit cert in addition to the $150 I paid for the elearning portion. I understand that the equipment is expensive, but the courses themselves should not cost what they do as it would deter many from wanting to partake in this hobby. Do you think this is too much to pay for a dry suit cert? Anyway, it's great to be here :)

Hi, and welcome!:)

I think, I paid about the same for my OW + Dry suit courses. To do iceberg diving in Newfoundland is one of my dreams!:) Good luck!

Iceberg diving sounds pretty risky to me haha, but amazing nonetheless. Could I also do the dry suit option as part of the Adventure Diver course? I don't think I really need to do the AOW if all I want to do is wreck diving and the ability to dive below 60ft.

Hmm... If you want to dive wrecks and go below 60 ft... Taking in consideration that Night and limited visibility as well as underwater navigation are practical for every diver, I would say that the AOW with wreck, deep, night, navigation specialties looks like a natural route for you. I'm not sure if PADI accepts Dry suit as one of the recognized specialties for an AOW certificate. I got mine through SSI. You better check it with your PADI instructors.
