Hi, glad to have found this forum. I have been to one discover scuba in Destin. I start my lessons in central Illinois next Tuesday. My friends and family think this is a midlife crisis since I am in my mid 50's. Cant wait. Looking forward to learning things from this board. Thanks, Laura

I began diving at 61, you are a youngster. This is a great hobby for people of all ages. Wish I had started earlier. You can learn a great deal through Scubaboard as well as find dive buddies and clubs. Welcome.

Hi Laura, welcome to the boards.
Obviously, the folks here at SB agree that diving is a great activity, and are eager to help.
Regarding what your friends and family think: it's not a midlife crisis if you really want to do it.
"Mid 50's"-still a spring chicken compared to some of the people here (me included) :)
Good luck, and enjoy the experience.

Hey
Don't worry about your age, you will fit right in. The majority of long-term divers I see are at least 40+. Heck my instructor is 72:) Welcome to the wonderful addiction of diving!

“Mid-Life-Crisis” ….. NO
“Mid-Life-Adjustment” … Yes ;)
But watch out for “Scuba Pox” :D

You will soon be asking why you didn't start earlier but will have a great time. It is a whole new world under water just waiting for you.

If it is a mid-life crisis, it's a pretty constructive response to it! I got certified at 52 -- it's a great sport.

Welcome to the Board. Diving can be very addictive, but it's an addiction I don't want to be cured of.

I got certified at 46 in 2007. I've also complained why I didn´t start before.
But now, with 50 years old, I'm doing Stress&Rescue and though it's a bit challenging at the pool drills, I can perform as those youngsters with me in the class.
It's not a crisis. For me it was time to worry a little about me, doing things I want.

It's a addiction I want to increase.
