Hi everyone!

I just finished my 4th certification dive from PADI today so I am quite happy! I am interested in taking Advanced Open Water and eventually, start buying my own equipment. Now, the first piece of equipment that I should buy should be either a regulator or a dive computer because they are "life-support" pieces of equipment, right?

Ok. So I have looked around and saw different dive computers. Basically, they are either a watch or a console. I would greatly appreciate if someone could tell me the pros and cons of each type and a good model/brand. What about the Mares Nemo?

Finally, I saw that they go from 500$ to 1500$!!!

Thank you!

You can find some wrist computers for about 150.00. I got my own regulator set and BCD before my computer. I just dove the tables until I got my computer.

From a form factor point of view dive computers are either consoles, wrist or watch.

You can use the Dive Computers Research Tool to compare different models.

$150 computers are likely wrist mount air-only computers. Based on my own experience I recommend that you go for a nitrox capable computer which can be had new in a wrist model for around $350. eBay is also a source of some good deals on dive equipment if you know what you are looking for and you only deal with sellers with both a high number of transactions and very high seller approval ratings.
