Hi, all! Just joined, although a lot of my Google searches ended up here (or Reddit). 😁 My wife and I just got OW certified a few weeks ago (in Catalina), and looking forward to planning some fun dive travel!

Mostly been using this board for buying/"not buying" advice, and to psyche myself out on accidents. 😅 I don't see myself going beyond basic rec diving (I mostly got certified so I could keep my wife company, definitely a reluctant diver and need a lot more practice to feel comfortable), but it's still fun to read about what everyone else is up to. You're a passionate lot!

Welcome aboard. If you can separate the wisdom from the egos this is an awesome place.

Welcome to Scubaboard! You'll love it here.

Catalina is near and dear to my heart. - My wife and I honeymooned there after meeting in our open water dive class in Monterey.
We were avid, yet poor, recreational divers at first. We took a 15 year break to raise a child now we're back into it big time. We are volunteer divers at Steinhart aquarium and help with Reefcheck research dives.
Welcome, have fun wherever your dive journey takes you.

Bien Venidos! welcome to the board.

Don't be afraid to ask as many questions as you can. Great people here with only a few that'll tug your chain

How magnificent is this!

Imagine other stuff in your life you may well have been hesitant about
marriage perhaps, driving lessons before acclimatising before loving it

You're a passionate lot!

Ha ha ha yeah we do that here

Hey kmoon are you originally from Ancient Egypt

Enjoyed reading your personal story! Very sweet! So glad you were able to get back into it! The volunteering sounds amazing. I think I'd love to get into cleanup dives.

Will do! Mostly lurking and absorbing still, although one area I could use some advice is whether to get into drysuits or not. Probably won't be doing any diving locally until summer otherwise, and a lot of sentiment on the board seems very pro drysuit, but it seems to add a lot of new complications and expense (would probably rent at first) when I have all of 4 OW dives at this point. Thinking a tropical getaway is a better use of the time and money right now. 😁 I'd rather focus on mastering my buoyancy for a while... although I need to be able to dive to do that, so a bit of a Catch-22.

Ha, Illinois. 😁 Although I mostly grew up in Orange County, CA. Why Ancient Egypt? 😅
