FYI, according to these articles, Taiwan just announced that it is strengthening its ban on shark finning.

Taiwanese law already prohibits fishing boats from discarding the carcass of a finned shark (i.e., they can fin it onboard but have to bring the remainder of the shark back to port with them).

The new regulations will prohibit them from cutting the fins off while the boat is still at sea. The regulations will take effect next year.

That's good news. I personally stopped eating fish fin soup 10 years ago and I don't object people fishing for the whole fish because everyone has to eat something and killing a pig is no different than killing a fish, but to discard the whole fish to waste just to keep the fins is amazingly cruel.
