New San Antonio Diver

Hey All,

I've been out of the waterworld for a few years now; but I'm back! I got my AOW while stationed over seas a few years back. Logged around 100 dives in my two years in Turkey. Unfortunately I've been out of it for about 6 years now. I'm getting ready to take refresher course and I've been reading up on all my old PADI info. I cant' wait to get some new gear and get back in the water. I look foward to meeting many of you! If anyone has any advice or info about diving in the San Antonio area please drop me a line!

Hey Mike Welcome to the board and Welcome back to Diving. Check things out at the Texas Swamp Divers part of the forum for Texas related stuff. There are some good shops in San Antonio, Dive World has two locations and I know Duggan Diving is about to start up their weekly Thursday evening dives (usually at the Comal River in New Braunfels)in a week or so. Once again welcome back and happy diving!!

Hi Mike,

Welcome back to diving! Just a bit further up IH35 is the San Marcos River and Spring Lake at the Aquarena Center, Diving for Science : Aquarena Center : Texas State University. If you will be diving regularly, twice a month, the Diving for Science program works well. After you complete the course there are no entrance fees to dive there and they will fill your tank after the dive provided staff is available. Another nice thing about San Marcos and Comal is that you can dive year round, the water temp is pretty constant.

Thanks for the reponses! Do you guys prefer one shop over another? I've been looking into both of their refreher courses. Also thanks for the info about San Marcos. I'll have to check that out. Sounds great!

My vote goes for Duggan Diving. They can train you at any level you want, loads of real world experience, and they have the best, most honest prices of any shop in town.

Thanks for the info. I've been shopping around and so far I think you're right. My only concern is that I like the idea that the Dive World shops have pools that I would be able to use much more regularly for practice when I can't make it to the river. I know Duggans has a deal with the pool at Ft Sam Houston, but that can only be used when you're signed up for a class. I guess I'd feel strange if I got all my new gear at Duggans and then paid when I wanted some pool time at Dive World. All I know is that I can't wait to kick this head cold so i can get the ball rolling!!!!!!!
