Do new regs come ready to use straight out of the box or do they need to be tuned and set up by a technician first?

I've just had an AquaLung Legend LX Supreme sent to me from overseas and want to know whether or not I can use it as is (I can put it all together easily enough). I want to use them this weekend but the shop has a 2 week wait on servicing.
Thanks for any input.

Well, afaik, most regs are ready to use straight out of the box. (At least mine was)

some regs might be detuned from the factory... the only way to really tell is to do an easy dive with your new gear and a buddy who has reliable gear.

"Dealer prep" should not be required for a new reg. But a good LDS will routinely do it & will find and correct some problems. But most of this is something you should be able to do yourself. Go ahead & complete your assembly. Then check all connections by hand to insure tightness. I have seen NIB regs with the hose connectionless than hand tight, so it does happen. With the first stage plugged (on tank or tight dust cap), inhale on each 2nd to check for leaks that will let water in. Then turn some gas on. It would be nice to have an IP gauge at this point but not abolutely necessary. Listen and feel for leaks. Breath each 2nd to make sure they are working OK. Trun off gas and watch to see that pressure does not drop. I like to go to the bath tub to check for small leaks and maybe even a real shallow dive.

A little extra caution on the first few dives can't hurt. Enjoy

I ordered an Aqualung Legend LX Supreme from Europe and used it straight out of the box. Only problems was that it was stolen after 6 dives, but the reg worked fine.
