New regulator and computer question

Hi All,

I recently moved to the Florida panhandle, so am looking to get back into diving. I have about 50 logged dives, but 40 of those were with the military, so were relatively controlled as far as planning and equipment.

I'm looking to purchase my own gear and do more civilian diving, and am relatively new/ignorant of that realm. I already have a basic BC and mask fins and all.

I've had the Zegal regulator and Hyper Aqualung computer recommended to me. I'm having trouble finding the first online--any suggestions?

Also, it seems i'm going to have to do some assembly of these, and I'm wondering how complex that is, do I need to have someone do it, etc. I've never taken the individual pieces apart on dive equipment.

Just this year Zeagle decided to allow their dealers to sell online and mail order. There may not be many doing it yet. I don't know. However, I do know a zeagle dealer who might be able to help at a decent price. PM me if you're interested. With this dealer everything will be tested and can be assembled. Of course after shipping it's always a good idea to give everything a once over.

The citizen hyper aqualand you asked about is a dive watch, not a dive computer. It does not calculate decompression status or make any other calculations for that matter. A dive computer tells you when you need to come up. A dive watch only tells you how long you have been down.

One reason that may not be able to find Zeagle regs so readily is that they are very similar to the apeks line. they are in fact of the exact same desingn. If you still can't find them I know a dealer that deals in canadian $$ (cheaper) and may be of interest. Email or Private message me if you

You can basically just get the Apeks brand of regulators as they are the manufacturers of the Zeagle brand of regulators ( In the past, not too sure about the last year or so ). Apeks has a fine record with regard to producing regulators and if you will recall John Bennett did his record deep dive ( 303m - 1000ft approx. ) with an Apeks TX100. No regulator has gone as deep.

That aside, you must consider whether the local dive store carries this brand and if they have the parts to service it. If this condition is not present then stick to the brands that can be serviced in your area.

A few years back we had a hell of a time trying to get a MR12 Voltrex fixed as there was no local Mares distributor in the country where I live. We were finally able to source parts from Hong Kong but it cost a hell of a lot more than having a regular US Divers or ScubaPro serviced. Thank God we have a distributor now.

As to putting the hoses together, being in the US Navy this should be easy for you. SPG on the High Pressure port and inflator and Octopus on the Low Pressure ports. LP inflator on the left side, SPG ( Console ) on the left HP port and octopus on the right LP port ( Unless you decide to put your Octopus on the left in which case put the Octopus on the left LP port and move your console to the right HP port.). You will also need wrenches and an Allen wrench set. Make sure to get the proper wrench sizes as you may damage some of the fittings which would make it harder to remove later on.

Always replace the O-rings on the hoses when you remove one of the hoses ( Just to be safe ). It is quite simple actually.

....... Or you can make it easier on yourself by having the personnel at your lds put it all together.
